Marc Dobbelaere, the founder of Marco Polo Expeditions, is not from Benidorm, but it appears as if he was. This grey-haired, charismatic Belgian arrived on the coast of Alicante 40 years ago, after a brief stint as a surfer in Tenerife. Despite a degree in physical education, he soon founded his company, which has since become a living legend in Benidorm and beyond. He started with eight jeeps and has now "struck the right balance between a wide variety of activities where you can hire all kinds of rolling, hovering and flying vehicles" and a well-oiled events department. A night safari with a barbecue under the stars, a helicopter flight or paragliding are some of the most attractive options, but the star product is a giant sailing catamaran that lets you cruise silently through the Mediterranean while enjoying unique views of Altea bay: Bernia, Ferrer and Aixortá mountain ranges, the town of Altea with its historic centre and the steep cliffs of the Morro de Toix, though this is just one of the many activities offered by Marco Polo Expediciones to make your holiday an unforgettable adventure.
